Long Awaited Dell EqualLogic Hardware Refresh is Here!
September 7th, 2011
The long awaited hardware refresh is here!
New EqualLogic hardware enclosures with more drive types, sizes and combinations are now available.
Dell has had a ton of new introductions recently, including the FS7500 NAS solution for EqualLogic (shown left), the NX3500 NAS solution for PowerVault, FC for PowerVault, and now, new and updated enclosures for EqualLogic.
In addition, the latest Dell firmware for EQL, v5.1 was recently released and brings some powerful new features like support for data center bridging (DCB) and support for sub-volume auto-tiering between Members in a Group. This one is huge!
This adds to EQL’s network and capacity load balancers the ability to balance workloads by performance, between Members in a Group. (Think in terms of mixing Members with different drive types in a Pool and automating exchange of hot and cold data automatically).
Of course this is a no cost download for your existing customers and can be applied on all EQL arrays.
The new EQL enclosures are the PS6100 series and PS4100 series. As always, you can continue to mix and match old EQL enclosures with new, preserving their investment and avoiding rip and replace upgrades.
